OLD WEST BAKED BEANS
This slow-baked molasses-and-mustard-flavored western favorite is a perfect party food because it can be made days ahead and just gets better with time. Enjoy it while watching Blazing Saddles,, which, according to creator Mel Brooks, is best seen on video. Claims Brooks, "I can't watch Blazing Saddles on television ... A lot of prudes got together and silly people got together and they cut out everything they thought would be offensive to a 4-year-old."

WESTERN-STYLE BAKED BEANS
My husband does not like baked beans but can't get enough of these. They are loaded with a variety of meats and get a little bit of sweetness from molasses and brown sugar. If you don't have a slow cooker, you can bake them in the oven until heated through.

SOUTHWESTERN BAKED BEANS
Three kinds of beans and a host of seasonings make this version of baked beans a winner. Southwest flavors dominate in this dish that's perfect with grilled chicken. Leslie Adams - Springfield, Missouri

BEST IN THE WEST BAKED BEANS
I think I clipped this recipe out of the newspaper years ago. It is always a huge hit at picnics, barbecues and get togethers. It's a nice change from the more traditional baked beans. I can't even begin to guess how many times I have handed out the recipe.

Steps:
- Brown beef, bacon and onion in large skillet. Drain.
- Combine all ingredients except beans, mix well.
- Add beans and stir gently.
- Bake one hour in a 325 to 350 oven (or until hot a bubbly).
- This recipe can easily be cut in half since it makes a rather large batch. I only use half the bacon. If you would like, you could add some more beef if cutting back on the bacon.
BAKED BEANS (WESTERN STYLE)
This is a great side dish with Bar-B-Que or any spicy dish. It has a sweet, tangy, full rich flavor. It's quick to prepare and ready for the table in minutes.

- Decide if you are going to make your Cowboy Beans in a slow cooker or bake in the oven in a large dish or cast iron dutch oven.
- Chop the sliced uncooked bacon into small pieces, over medium heat, brown the bacon in a heavy cast iron skillet or a large cast iron dutch oven.
- Remove the crispy cooked bacon to a small bowl, don't use the bacon grease in this recipe. Next add the chopped onion and brown for 5-6 minutes until translucent, add the minced garlic, stir for one minute. Remove the onion and garlic in a small bowl with the crispy cooked bacon.
- Next, brown the ground beef, cook for 6-8 minutes. Next, add the bacon, onions, and garlic back with the ground beef. Place into the slow cooker (or large dutch oven or large dish if baking in oven).
