Hot Pineapple Ham Sandwiches image

Steps:

Mix first 4 ingredients. Place half the mixture in a 5-qt. slow cooker; top with half the ham. Repeat layers. Cook, covered, on low until heated through, 3-4 hours., Using tongs, remove ham from slow cooker, leaving pineapple mixture behind; keep warm. In a large saucepan, mix cornstarch and water until smooth. Stir in pineapple mixture; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until mixture is slightly thickened, stirring occasionally. Serve ham, pineapple mixture and, if desired, cheese on rolls.

Drain pineapple, reserving juice. Add enough water to juice to measure 1/2 cup; set aside. In a large nonstick skillet, lightly brown pineapple and ham. Ham and Pineapple Fried Sandwiches image

Steps:

Spread cream cheese on two slices of bread. Layer 2 slices of ham, 2 tablespoons of pineapple, and one slice of cheese over the cream cheese. Then top each sandwich with one more slice of bread. Cut off crusts.
In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk and sugar. Briefly dip both sides of sandwiches in egg mixture.
Heat butter and oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place sandwiches in skillet, and fry on each side until golden brown and cheese is melted, about 5 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels and cool for 3 minutes before serving.

Tear 4 pieces of aluminum foil that are large enough to encircle each sandwich. Place on a flat work surface.
On top of each foil piece, stack a bottom bun, 1/4 of the ham, a pineapple ring, and 1 slice of cheese. Place the top bun on top. Wrap the sandwich completely with foil. Repeat with remaining sandwiches.
To cook, place the sandwiches on a hot stone near the fire, or over hot coals or a grill rack until hot, about 20 minutes depending upon the temperature of your fire. (Alternatively, you can bake these sandwiches directly on top of the center rack in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes.)
