GLAZED APPLE PIE SQUARES
These apple squares are a good change from apple pie since they are glazed and a little bit sweeter. The dough is firm enough that you can eat them with your hands and are best when apples are in season. -Diane Turner, Brunswick, Ohio

- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In a measuring cup, combine egg yolk and enough milk to measure 1/3 cup. Gradually add to the flour mixture, tossing with a fork until dough forms a ball. , Preheat oven to 350°. Divide dough in half. Roll one portion into a thin 15x10-in. rectangle. Transfer to the bottom of an ungreased 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Sprinkle with cornflakes. , In a large bowl, combine apples, 1 cup sugar, 1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon and nutmeg; toss to coat. Spoon over crust. , Roll remaining dough into a thin 15x10-in. rectangle; place over apple filling. Beat egg white; brush over pastry. Combine remaining sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over the top. Bake 45-50 minutes or until golden brown. , For glaze, combine confectioners' sugar, vanilla and enough milk to achieve a drizzling consistency. Drizzle over warm pastry. Cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into squares.

Steps:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar and baking soda; cut in 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside 2 cups for topping. Press remaining crumbs into a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Arrange apples over top; set aside. , In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, water, vanilla and remaining butter. Bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thick and bubbly; spread over apples. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs. , Bake at 350° for 35-45 minutes or until top is lightly browned.

BUTTER TART SQUARES
These Butter Tart Squares are so sweet and gooey. A pastry crust makes them so easy and SO good - and so much quicker than butter tarts.

Steps:
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9-inch square baking pan with nonstick cooking spray and line with parchment paper to overhang the sides.
- For the pastry: Add the flour, sugar and salt to a large bowl or the bowl of your food processor and mix/pulse to combine. Add the melted butter and mix until moist and crumbly. Transfer to your prepared pan and press into the bottom and about 1/2 centimeter (1/4 inch) up the sides.
- Dock the crust all over with a fork and bake for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, for the filling: Whisk together the sugar, corn syrup, maple syrup, eggs, melted butter, vinegar, vanilla extract and salt in a large bowl.
- Sprinkle the crust with the pecans and raisins and pour over the filling. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the filling is just set but still a bit wobbly.
- Cool to room temperature before removing from the pan and slicing into squares.
MARY'S APPLE SQUARES
Steps:
- Put flour and salt into bowl, cut in shortening until particles are the size of small peas. Combine eggs and water, sprinkle over flour mixture. Toss lightly til moistened.
- Roll out half of dough to fit 13x9x2 pan. Fill with apples. Combine sugar and cornstarch in saucepan, blend in water. Cook, stirring constantly till thickened. Pour over apples and sprinkle with cinnamon. Roll out remaining dough and place over apples. Seal edges and cut slits for steam.
- Bake at 400 degrees F for 10 minutes, then at 350 degrees F for 20-30 minutes, till apples are tender and crust is golden. Frost when cool. To make the icing cream the butter and add the other ingredients. Adjust milk to desired spreading consistency.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Whisk 2 cups flour and salt together in a bowl. Cut shortening into flour mixture using a pastry blender or a fork until crumbly.
- Whisk water, eggs, and lemon juice together in a separate bowl; stir into flour mixture until dough forms a ball. Split dough into halves; roll each half into about a 9x13-inch rectangle. Press 1 rectangle into the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Place apple slices in a large bowl; add sugar, 3 tablespoons flour, and cinnamon. Toss apples to coat; spread over crust. Cover apple filling with remaining crust, piecing together any scraps to cover any holes. Cut several slits into top crust for ventilation while cooking.
- Bake in the preheated oven until edges are browned and crisp, 45 minutes to 1 hour. Cool to room temperature before cutting into squares, about 30 minutes.
