CHAI TEA LATTE

My family loves this comforting chai tea latte recipe, especially on cold days instead of cocoa or when they're feeling under the weather. I simplified this chai tea recipe by using the filter basket of our coffeepot. It's delicious and great after dinner! -Julie Plummer, Sykesville, Maryland

Steps:

  • Place the tea bags, cinnamon, ginger and allspice in the coffee filter of a drip coffeemaker. Add water; brew according to manufacturer's directions. , Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine the milk, brown sugar and creamer. Cook and stir over medium heat until heated through and sugar is dissolved. Pour milk mixture into mugs; stir in tea. If desired, dollop with whipped topping and sprinkle with nutmeg.

This is really similar to the brand Oregon® Chai. Simply delicious either hot or iced! This will save you more money than buying the chai. In India, each family has their own way of making it, so you should experiment to find your favorite blend.

  • Pour boiling water over tea bag in a mug; let steep 4 to 6 minutes. Remove and discard tea bag.
  • Stir honey and sugar into tea to dissolve. Stir milk through tea to serve.

MISS KITTY'S QUICK & EASY CHAI TEA LATTE

This is the fastest way I know to get a cup of Chai Tea latte after dinner. This makes about 1 cup, double or triple ingredient measures for more. My favorite combinations are Blue Diamond Natural "Almond Breeze" Vanilla Non-Dairy Beverage (almond 'milk') and TAZO Chai Spiced Black Tea Latte Concentrate.

Will need to adjust for personal taste. I was buying 1-2 starbucks chai tea lattes every day and quickly realized I was spending $100. - $200. on lattes every month. I read the ingredients from latte mixes and came up with this recipe. I like it best with brown sugar although it's also great with honey (and a little healthier) A bonus: I like this recipe MUCH better than a starbuck's chai tea latte!

  • Add dry ingredients to 1-1/2 cups milk and vanilla in microwave proof bowl or saucepan

  • For the chai tea: In a medium-sized saucepan, bring the water and spices to a boil. Whisk the spices in the water. Once the water reaches a boil, turn off the heat and allow the spices to steep in the water for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, turn the heat back on and add the black tea bag and maple syrup. Return to a slight boil (the goal is a hot liquid for steeping). Once boiling, turn off the heat. Allow the tea bags to steep in the water and spices for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags and strain the tea through a fine mesh strainer. Reserve 1/2 cup of chai tea for the latte. Store the rest of the chai tea in the fridge up to two weeks for freshness.
  • For the latte: In a medium-size saucepan, bring the milk, maple syrup, and pinch of cinnamon to a slight boil (the sides of the milk will begin to bubble), stirring often. Once the sides of the milk begin to bubble, remove the pan from heat. Using an immersion blender (this is the trick to a frothy homemade latte), blend the milk until it's frothy.
  • Pour 1/2 cup of chai tea in a mug. Slowly add the warm, frothy milk to the tea. Sprinkle the top of the chai latte with an extra pinch of cinnamon, if desired.
