SPICY GARLIC GREEN BEANS

I created this recipe while trying to reproduce a dish served at my favorite Chinese restaurant. These come very close and use just a few handy ingredients.-Jennifer Hoeft, Thorndale, Texas

Spicy Garlic Green Beans image

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, saute the beans, garlic, red pepper flakes and salt in oil for 10-12 minutes or until beans are crisp-tender.

1 pound fresh green beans, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon canola oil

SPICY SZECHUAN GREEN BEANS

I modified this recipe to be less oily. It is almost as good as take-out Chinese green beans. It tastes wonderful with ham and a baked yam.

Spicy Szechuan Green Beans image

Steps:

  • Combine green beans and water in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until beans are tender crisp, 4 to 5 minutes. Add ginger, garlic, and sesame oil; cook, stirring frequently, until garlic is lightly browned, 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and red pepper flakes together in a small bowl. Pour over beans and cook until sauce thickens enough to coat beans, 3 to 5 minutes.

Garlicky, Spicy and Sesamey Green Beans image

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the green beans, and cook for about 2 minutes. Drain, and immediately transfer to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking. Drain again.
  • Heat the sesame oil and vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the green beans, and fry for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Add the garlic, shallot, salt and pepper to the beans. Cook and stir for 1 minute. Mix in the sesame seeds, cook for 1 more minute, then serve.

SPICY GARLIC GREEN BEANS

This is a great dish we have at a local chinese restaurant that I came home and played with. They're an excellent side dish. I store some thai peppers in oil that I use in place of the olive oil but regular olive oil is fine. This recipe is great if you cube up a chicken breast into 1/2" cubes and add it also.

Spicy Garlic Green Beans image

Steps:

  • Wash and cut stems off green beans. Heat up skillet with 2 T olive oil. When hot toss in half the garlic. Just as it starts to pop add sesame oil and green beans and toss until lightly coated. As green beans warm up add soy and pepper flakes. Toss lightly and cover over med-low heat until green beans are tender.
  • When green beans are tender and almost ready, add remaining garlic, salt to taste and continue to cook until garlic is toasty.
  • Remove and serve hot.

  • Add the garlic, peppers, turmeric, cumin, and cayenne. Cook, stirring, until the garlic begins to turn golden, about 2 minutes.
  • Add the green beans, water, and salt. Stir well. Cover and cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the beans are tender, 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Add the sesame seeds and cook uncovered, stirring, until toasted, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.
