ITALIAN SAUSAGE AND PEPPER BURGERS

Italian Sausage and Pepper Burgers image

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions and peppers and saute until the onions are translucent and the peppers are tender, 6 to 8 minutes. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute longer. Remove from the heat.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill to medium high.
  • Combine both sausages in a bowl. Form into 4 patties. Grill until cooked through, 4 to 5 minutes per side. Top each burger with some of the onions and peppers and 2 slices of cheese, cover the grill and cook until the cheese melts.
  • In a bowl, add the mayo and pesto and stir to combine. Spread the rolls with the pesto mayo, add the burgers and banana peppers and serve immediately.

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, thinly sliced
1 red bell pepper, cored and thinly sliced
1 tablespoon tomato paste
12 ounces hot Italian sausage (if links, remove casings)
12 ounces sweet Italian sausage (if links, remove casings)
8 slices provolone
1/4 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons pesto
4 ciabatta rolls, buttered and lightly toasted
Pickled banana peppers, for topping

  • In a large bowl, combine the first 6 ingredients. Crumble turkey over mixture and mix well. Shape into four 3/4-in.-thick oval-shaped patties. , Grill patties on an oiled rack, uncovered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from the heat on each side until a thermometer reaches 165° and juices run clear, 6-8 minutes. , Place a patty on each of 4 slices of bread.   • In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup cheese and seasonings. Add beef; mix lightly but thoroughly. Shape into four 1/2-in.-thick patties., Grill burgers, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from heat until a thermometer reads 160°, 4-5 minutes on each side. SWEET ITALIAN BURGERS

This recipe is from Mehungry98 on Allrecipes.com and was titled Chili Burgers. To me, a chili burger is smothered in the bean/meat/chili powder stuff and is almost impossible to eat by hand. This recipe is NOTHING like that, so I renamed it Sweet Italian Burgers. Ground beef and sweet Italian sausage are mixed with the tomato based chili sauce, like the one used to make cocktail sauce. The result is a juicy, mouth watering, savory burger that,omg, is simply amazing. It's way to hard to compare it to any other burger. I don't know just how Italian this is, but the name is now more appropriate.

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat grill on high. Lightly oil grates.
  • 2. In a medium bowl, gently mix beef, sausage, chili sauce, salt and pepper.
  • 3. Form meat mixture into 4 to 8 patties, depending on how big you like them. Flatten into patties.
  • 4. Grill 5 minutes per side or until done.
  • 5. Serve on buns with what ever you like, but I like mine straight up with nothing on them. The meat is THAT GOOD!
  • Note* You may add more chili sauce if you like, but do not increase the amount of Italian sausage. It will greatly alter the taste and turn this into a different burger entirely.

  • cut tomatoes with kitchen shears and soak in olive oil to soften, about 10 minutes.
  • shread basil leaves.
  • whip egg in small bowl, add drained tomatoes and basil.
  • place chicken in medium bowl with suger, grill seasoning and garlic.
