BABY CEREAL BISCUITS (EGGLESS)

Perfect for a teething baby! These contain NO wheat or eggs. You do not need to add any sugar or salt; these are not necessary for a baby. I don't know how much this yields; depends on how big you make the biscuits. Recipe from wholesomebabyfood.com

BABY TEETHING BISCUITS-EGGLESS, SUGARLESS

Babies shouldn't eat eggs before they are a year old. I've been searching for a recipe that doesn't use eggs or sugar and thought I'd share this one. The sweetness is provided by juice.

Steps:

  • Mix ingredients together.
  • Roll out and cut or pat into shape.
  • Bake for about 20-30 minutes at 350°F.
  • New info.
  • You can bake these longer at a lower temperature to get a harder cookie. My first batch came out rubbery, which worked well for my son's teething. I will update this as I experiment.

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and use ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Put the egg in a large mixing bowl and beat well. Add the honey and sugar and blend. Add the salt, soy flour, wheat germ, dry milk, and whole wheat flour and mix thoroughly. Dust a working surface and your rolling pin with whole wheat flour, and have some extra handy. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 9 by 12 inches, and about 1/4 inch thick. Sprinkle the dough with a little whole wheat flour if it is sticky, lifting and moving the dough as you are rolling it out so it won't stick to the surface.
  • Trim the edges neatly and cut the dough into strips 1 inch wide by 2 1/2 inches long. Place the biscuits on the cookie sheets about 1/2 inch apart.
  • Bake for 7 minutes or until colored on the bottom. Turn them over, using a spatula, and continue to bake for about 4 more minutes. Remove from the oven and cool on racks. Store in an airtight container or wrap well and freeze. Do not give under a year old if you are worried about honey or your child having allergies to milk.

BABY CEREAL COOKIES

Daniel was never keen on baby cereal or other pureed foods. I found this recipe when I was searching for ways to incorporate baby cereal and other iron-rich foods into a finger-food diet for him. They are wonderful! Daniel has one or two each morning for breakfast. To mix things up, I sometimes add a banana or a handful of raisins to the mix. These freeze well, so if you end up with too many cookies, just pop them in a freezer bag and save for later! (I found the recipe at www.simcoehealth.org.)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375.
  • Grease a cookie sheet or spray with nonstick spray.
  • Lightly cream molasses and butter.
  • Mix in egg and vanilla.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and cereal.
  • Add to the butter mixture.
  • Blend.
  • Add milk.
  • Drop on the cookie sheet 2 inches apart.
  • Bake 10-12 minutes.
  • (Note: for babies under 12 months, you can easily substitute 2 egg yolks for the 1 whole egg and breastmilk or formula for the whole milk. This is a very flexible recipe, so experiment and enjoy!).

1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups infant cereal
3 tablespoons whole milk

  • Coat bananas, avocado or pears in infant cereal for better grip. Babies as young as 6 months can start eating soft and safe finger foods like ripe banana, avocado and pear, but those foods easily slip out of their hands.
  • Make Homemade iron-rich teething biscuits. Homemade iron-rich teething biscuits are oh-so-fun for babies because they’re delicious and can be made into fun shapes using cookie cutters!
  • Replace breadcrumbs or oats with infant cereal for meatballs, or meat patties for an iron and protein-rich baby-friendly finger food. Meatballs and meat patties are a great starting finger food for babies.
  • Make homemade baby banana muffins. Muffins are a fantastic starting solids food as they are so versatile. Egg muffins, mini-meat muffins, and even delicious baking muffins.
  • Sprinkle into baby-friendly foods such as smoothies, oatmeal, full-fat plain yogurt, or a fruit pouch! This is a great way to use up leftover infant cereal and add some texture (and iron!)
