This moist applesauce cake recipe is a treasured heirloom passed down from my Grandma Stuit, who cooked for a family of 13 during the Depression. At reunions, it's the first dessert gone...including the crumbs! -Joanie Jager, Lynden, Washington

GRANDMA FLORENCE'S APPLESAUCE CAKE
This was made by my grandmother every Holiday. She would make three or four of these at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her mom, Grandma Florence, made these for her when she was growing up. It has been passed down now to me, the fourth generation. Enjoy.

This is a favorite of my late grandma's recipes. She passed away a year ago October 27 and I am just now able to look at her cookbooks and make what I call my memory food. This is a very simple cake and is delicious iced or not. Enjoy!

GRAN'S APPLE CAKE
My grandmother occasionally brought over this wonderful cake warm from the oven. The spicy apple flavor combined with the sweet cream cheese frosting made this recipe one that we treasured. Even though I've lightened it up, it's still a family favorite. -Lauris Conrad, Turlock, California

- In a mixing bowl combine the dry ingredients - flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, raisins and pecans together.
- In a separate mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar. I leave out butter the night before to be perfectly softened for recipes. Next add the eggs and mix together. Finally add the applesauce and vegetable oil and mix to combine.
- Add half of the dry ingredients to the wet and mix to combine. Add the remaining dry ingredients and mix until combined.
