OLD FASHIONED APPLE PIE

Old Fashioned Apple Pie image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • In a bowl combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Place mixture in a pastry-lined 9 inch pie plate. Dot with butter and adjust top crust that has been vented.
  • Place in oven and bake at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) for 10 minutes. Turn oven temperature down to 275-300 degrees F (135-150 degrees C) and bake 40-50 minutes or until crust is golden brown and apples are tender. Let cool and serve.

2 (9 inch) unbaked pie crusts
7 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
1 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter

This is a sweet, tart and delicious apple pie. Guaranteed to please. Be sure to use Granny Smith apples since they work the best.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • Mix together the sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon peel.
  • Line one crust in a 9-inch deep-dish pie pan. Layer 1/3 of apples into pie crust. Sprinkle with sugar mixture and repeat until done. Sprinkle with lemon juice and dot with butter.
  • Place second pie crust on top of filling and flute the edges. Cut vents in top crust and brush with milk for a glazed appearance if desired.
  • Bake at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) for 40 to 50 minutes.

Apple pie is my #1 favorite pie and I love to make and bake apple pie and any kind of pies. It is so easy to make it. They are so delicious and tasty. Yummy!!

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice. Combine sugars, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg; add to apples and toss well to coat. Fill pastry lined 9 inch pie pan with apple mixture. Dot with butter. Place second crust on top of pie filling, cut slits in top of crust to vent. Seal the edges of the crust with a fork or by hand. In a small bowl, beat the egg yolk and milk. Brush mixture over top crust. Bake at 425 degrees F for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F and bake 40-45 minutes more or until crust is golden and filling is bubbly.
  • Pastry Pie Crust: Combine the flour and salt in a large bowl. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the ice water, a Tablespoon at a time, until the crust mixture forms a ball. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight. Sprinkle flour onto rolling surface. Roll dough out, then divide in half. Roll each half to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place crust in pie plate, pressing evenly into the bottom and sides.
