Crabmeat and cream cheese wontons make excellent appetizers. Leave out the water chestnuts, if desired. Serve with your favorite Asian-style dipping sauces.

Steps:

  • In a large, heavy sauce pan heat oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • In a medium bowl, mix cream cheese, crabmeat, garlic powder, paprika and water chestnuts.
  • Place approximately 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of wonton wrappers. Moisten wrapper edges with water, fold over the mixture and pinch to seal.
  • In small batches, fry the wontons 3 to 5 minutes, or until golden brown.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet, and set aside.
  • Combine the cream cheese, sour cream, onion, garlic powder, and sugar in a bowl, and beat until soft and well mixed. Lightly stir in the flaked imitation crab meat.
  • Fill a bowl with lukewarm water. Remove a wonton wrapper from the stack, and cover the stack with a damp paper towel to keep the wrappers from drying out. With your finger, wet two adjoining edges of the wrapper with water, and place about 2 teaspoons of filling in the center. Fold the wrapper into a triangle shape, pressing out all the air and sealing the edges well. Place the filled wonton on the prepared baking sheet while you finish filling and folding the wontons.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, until the wonton edges turn brown and crisp. Serve immediately.

Steps:

  • Combine cream cheese, crab meat, scallions, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl; stir until evenly combined.
  • Preheat an air fryer to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray the basket of the air fryer with cooking spray. Fill a small bowl with warm water.
  • Place 12 wonton wrappers on a clean work surface. Spoon 1 teaspoon of cream cheese mixture into the center of each wonton wrapper. Dip index finger into the warm water and wet around the sides of each wonton wrapper. Crimp wrapper corners upwards to meet in the center to form dumplings.
  • Place dumplings in the prepared basket and spray the tops with cooking spray.
  • Cook dumplings until desired crispness, about 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  • While first batch is cooking, assemble remaining dumplings with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  • Serve with sweet chili sauce for dipping.

  • Working in batches, arrange 5 – 10 wonton wrappers on a clean, dry surface. Brush all 4 edges of each wrapper with the egg wash using a pastry brush or your finger.
  • Place 1 rounded teaspoon of cream cheese filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. To wrap, first lift and press the seams of 2 opposing corners together over the filling. Then, lift the remaining 2 opposing corners and bring them also to the middle to form a small parcel. Press all seams together and fold over the top where all 4 corners meet. If the wrapper does not seem to stick, apply additional egg wash. Repeat with all remaining wonton wrappers and filling.
