SOUTHERN CABBAGE SOUP
I just finished cooking this for dinner tonight. You'll be proud of me I took a pic of it while it was still in the pot. I made a whole lot because we love leftovers and it just tastes so much better the second time around. My own pic. :)

SOUTHERN FRIED CABBAGE
This dish was always a favorite at Mammaw's house. Cabbage is fried with onion and bacon in this simple quick side dish. Terrific with cornbread.

- Place the bacon and vegetable oil into a large pot over medium heat. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until bacon is crisp. Add cabbage, onion, and sugar to the pot; cook and stir continuously for 5 minutes, until tender.

This is how I got my children to like cabbage. It is a simple recipe. It came from an old magazine clipping, do not remember which one. We usually have cornbread on the side with rice and sausage.

- In a 5-quart dutch oven or 12-inch skillet over medium heat, cook bacon until browned.
- Add cabbage, onion, salt; stir to coat cabbage evenly with bacon fat.
- Add water and reduce heat to medium-low; cover and cook 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender and lightly browned.
