Steps:
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the brown sugar, vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce and 2 cups of the pineapple juice. Bring to a boil.
- Make a slurry by mixing the cornstarch into the remaining 1/4 cup pineapple juice, whisking to get out all the lumps. Whisk the slurry into the skillet and add the All-Purpose Meatballs. Bring to a simmer and add the sriracha. Cover and cook until the sauce is thickened and the meatballs are heated through, 8 to 10 minutes. Stir in the pineapple chunks.
- Serve over steamed rice, garnished with green onions.
- To make the meatballs, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, cream, parsley, mustard, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Mix together well with your hands. Scoop out 1-tablespoon portions and roll them into balls with your hands. Place the meatballs onto parchment-lined baking sheets and put the baking sheets in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes for the meatballs to firm up.
- To brown the meatballs, heat the olive oil in a heavy pot or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the meatballs in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Cook, turning the meatballs to make sure they brown all over, 5 to 7 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels.
- Freezer instructions: Put the cooked meatballs in a single layer on baking sheets and put into the freezer. When frozen, divide them into freezer bags, 25 per bag, and return them to the freezer. Yield: 125 meatballs.
SWEET AND SOUR MEATBALLS IN SAUCE
A family recipe (from my mother-in-law) for a unique twist on traditional meatballs. These are baked in a wonderful tomato-based sweet and sour sauce, which is delicious over rice! I doubled the original sauce recipe. We love extra sauce, and this recipe will make a lot.

- Marinara Sauce. The obvious choice for adding marinara sauce to your meatballs is to go to the store and buy a jar of Newman’s Own. However, homemade marinara sauce is so much more flavorful.
- Swedish Meatball Sauce. Swedish meatball sauce requires a few more ingredients than homemade marinara, but it actually takes less time to make. It’s thick, creamy, buttery, and full of flavor.
- Honey Garlic Meatball Sauce. If you’re looking for something with a bit of an Asian flair, these sweet, spicy, and savory meatballs are an excellent option.
- Sweet and Sour Meatball Sauce. All you’ll need to make this simple sweet and sour meatball sauce is ketchup and grape jelly. I know it seems impossible that something that tastes so good can be so simple, but it’s true.
- Grape Jelly Sauce. This sauce, too, uses grape jelly, but instead of ketchup, you’ll add chili sauce. It makes it a thicker, richer sauce with just a bit of heat to back it up.
- Garlic Butter Sauce. This four-ingredient sauce is perfect for anyone who truly loves garlic. Although there’s also flour and chicken broth on the ingredients list, it tastes primarily of butter and garlic.
- Dipping Sauce. If you’re in a big hurry, meatball dipping sauce is the way to go. It takes only 6 minutes to make and uses only 6 ingredients. You can make it with cornflour, apple cider vinegar, dark soy sauce, brown sugar, water, and ketchup.
- Tomato Sauce. Sometimes, the best sauce for meatballs is one that’s simple and full of fresh garden flavor. That’s precisely what tomato sauce is. All you’ll need is garlic, a bay leaf, red pepper flakes, olive oil, and whole plum tomatoes.
- Vodka Cream Sauce. This recipe is for an entire dish, but if all you’re interested in is the sauce, stick to the first two steps in the instructions.
- Sunday Sauce. Sunday sauce might have a short, simple name, but the ingredients list is actually one of the longest of all the sauces on the list. There’s olive oil, pork neck bones, Italian sausage, diced onions, salt, garlic, red wine, tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, tomato puree, water, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
