EASY SWEET AND SOUR SAUCE FOR CHICKEN OR PORK

There are 104 recipes for sweet and sour sauce on the Zaar, but none like this one. Lightly battered chicken or pork chunks, green pepper, onions, thinly sliced carrots, and pineapple chunks served with the sauce over rice make a complete meal.

Easy Sweet and Sour Sauce for Chicken or Pork image

Steps:

  • Mix the vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, and soy sauce together and bring to a boil in a small pot. Mix together the cornstarch and water, add to the other ingredients and stir to thicken.
  • For a thicker sauce, increase the cornstarch to 5 teaspoons.

1/3 cup rice vinegar (do not substitute for best results)
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon soy sauce
2 teaspoons cornstarch
4 teaspoons water

TED'S SWEET & SOUR SAUCE FOR PORK, CHICKEN ETC

Nearly all the sweet & sour sauces here on RecipeZaar have pineapple in them - this one doesn't . It is just a perfect combo of sweet/sour flavor. Do your pork, chicken what ever meat you prefer pan browned or deep fried then pour this sauce over and serve immediately. If you are not deep frying the meat coat with a bit of corn starch and crisp fry it until done. I like 1" cubes for the meat. This is enough sauce for 1 lb of meat

Steps:

  • Put tbsp of oil into a wok or skillet, heat but not smoking.
  • Add garlic, carrot & green pepper stir fry for 2-3 minutes or until the carrot & pepper start to darken in color.
  • Pour in the chicken stock, soy, vinegar & sugar, bring to a boil and boil rapidly for 1 minute.
  • Add mixed cornstarch, keep stirring the sauce until it is clear and thickened.
  • Pour over the meat and enjoy.

1 tablespoon peanut oil or 1 tablespoon other low flavored oil
1 teaspoon garlic, finely chopped
1 large green pepper, seeded,menbranes removed,cut into 1/2 inch squares
1 medium carrot, scrapped,cut into strips 2 inch long by 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch
1/2 cup chicken stock

Steps:

  • Place cubed pork in a medium bowl, and season with 1 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon sugar, and 1 teaspoon soy sauce. Mix in the egg white and green onions. Cover, and place in the refrigerator at least 1 hour.
  • Heat 1 quart oil to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C) in a large, heavy saucepan or deep fryer.
  • Coat the pork with 1/2 cup cornstarch, and fry in the heated oil about 10 minutes, until evenly browned. Drain on paper towels.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a wok over medium heat. Stir in the celery, green bell pepper, and onion, and cook until tender. Season with salt and sugar. Remove from heat, and set aside.
  • In a large saucepan, mix 1 cup water, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 3/4 cup sugar, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, and 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce. Bring to a boil, and stir in the cooked pork, celery mixture, and the pineapple chunks with juice. Return to boil, and mix in 2 tablespoons cornstarch and 1/4 cup water to thicken. Cook until well blended.

Sweet and Sour Pork/Chicken image

Steps:

  • Combine 2 tbs soy sauce, 1 tbs rice wine, and meat in a bowl. Stir to coat & let marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  • Mix in a small bowl, vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, water, 1 tbs cornstarch, 2 tsp soy sauce, and chili garlic sauce. Set aside.
  • Remove meat from marinade. Dip meat in egg wash, drain excess, then dredge in cornstarch and shake off the excess.
  • In a wok or deep fryer, heat oil to 360 degrees. Fry meat a few pieces at a time to not drop temperature, turning occasionally until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towel. Repeat process for remaining meat pieces.
  • Sautee onions and bell peppers until onions are translucent, add sauce, cook sauce over medium-high heat, stirring, until boils and thickens then stir in pineapples and meat. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Place meat on a bed of rice & top with sauce.
